This glass bead industry on the isle of Murano was established at
instigation of the discoverer Marco Polo who exchange-traded the beads
with the people he met at foreign shores.

Tichelaar & de Vries' Kleiwarenfabrieken
gev. te Makkum (Fr), Bewijs van Aandeel groot f 1000, Makkum, 1920; zeldzaam SPECIMEN van de beroemde drukkerij De Bussy in Amsterdam, bruin-groene sierrand en bruine tekst; conditie VF-: div. vouwen en verticaal een ontwaardingsperforatie die voor 50% is los gegaan. Bovenin is met potlood een naam en nummer geschreven; Volledig los couponblad; Zeer zeldzaam aandeel van het bedrijf dat beroemd werd door zijn Makkum's sieraardewerk! prijs € 250.
Tichelaar, tegenwoordig Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum, is het oudste bedrijf in Nederland. Op een Spaanse kaart uit 1572 is op de plek van de huidige fabriek al een "bricaria", oftewel steenfabriek te vinden. Sind 1640 is het bedrijf (althans deels) in handen van de familie Tichelaar. De huidige directeur Jan Tichelaar is de dertiende generatie aan het roer van het bedrijf, dat zich tegenwoordig vooral toelegt op de produktie van sieraardewerk en modern keramiek. It depicts 3 differently decorated plates, a teapot + cup, being painted by a cherub, a statue of a ceramic soldier and lion: beige, white, brown and green.
